Course Outline - Day 2

Time Description
7:30- 8:30 Maintenance Class: Instructions and how to's on oiling, changing needles, timing, cleaning bobbin assembly, adjusting check spring, changing switches, cleaning carriage wheels and tracks.
8:30-9:30 Shopping for necessities for the machine and machine quilting such as; machine oil, needles, extra bobbins, check-spring, felt pads, patterns, thread, pantograph planner and whatever other optional items the student desires.
9:30-10:30 Review of pantograph planner. Marking one pattern that the student has purchased, if time permits.
10:30-11:00

Preparing wholecloth (muslin) for quilting.

11:00-12:00 Putting wholecloth quilt on the machine. Review of threading and testing tension.
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00

QUILTING using Gammill accessories:

  • Using the work station for making circles, ovals, etc..

  • Using the stencil kit for block patterns.

  • Using the Gam Guide for cross hatching.

  • Using the Gam Guide )r. and extended Throat Plate for cross-hatching, stitch-in-the-ditch, and stitching in small areas.

  • Pivotal Access demonstrated.

2:00-3:30

Exploring free-hand techniques such as meandering, (several varieties), stitch-in-the-ditch (without use of rulers), echoing, feathers, hearts and loops, ribbon candy, leaves, flowers and, if time permits, cathedral windows continuous line quilting.

3:30-4:30 Wrap Up. Time for questions, additional help, review of trouble shooting sheet, review of covered key points of the machine. Review of upcoming classes (Pam Clark, Sherry Rogers, Marcia Stevens) at Cranberry Quiltworks.
