Training Course Outline 1

 
Our mission is to teach beginning level long-arm quilting to new owners of Gammill long-arm quilting machines and to teach the machine owner proper maintenance and care of the long-arm machine.  To accomplish this we provide a two-day intensive training program to buyers of the machines from us.  Below is the outline of the material covered in the first of the two days.   For details of the second day, student class preparation and information about our instructors, click on links to those pages.

Course Outline - Day 1

Time Description
8:30-9:00

Quilt Preparation; measuring and marking the pieced top, lining and batting.

9:00-9:30  Understanding various pattern types.
9:30-10:00   Learning to use the Pantograph Planner.  Marking the pieced top to make the pattern fit the quilt.
10:00-11:00

Putting the lining, batting and pieced top onto the machine properly; correct posture stressed.

11:00-11:15 Threading the machine, testing for correct tension and basting.
11:15-11:30    Discussion of machine controls and their use.
11:30-12:00 Setting up pantograph pattern on the machine table.  Marking the pattern to correspond to the quilt top.
12:00-1:00    LUNCH
1:00-3:00     

QUILTING the quilt.        

3:00-3:30 Finishing touches; preparing the quilt for the customer.
3:30-4:30 

Business SessionBusiness building ideas on how to set  up a long-arm quilting business.  Discussions will focus on consulting with customers, pricing your quilting, time management, record keeping, generating referrals, and ordering supplies.

4:30-5:00
